After a brief
silence, Lau gets up from his seat. He points to the two lab assistants in the
room.
LAU
Come with me. We’re
going to run another check for any illegal networks Slater might have use. I don’t
have time for this.
Dr. Lau storms out
of the room, the assistants scurrying behind him.
MCNALLY
Dr. Caine…if you
please?
Caine adjusts her
glasses.
CAINE
As you know, the
portal activates a brain chemical called Miraversadine or MD-5. This chemical
is what gives our competitors access to their abilities. But without a portal,
the chemical remains dormant.
MCNALLY
Right. Portals
activate powers.
CAINE
My theory is
that Slater Johnson has found a way to reverse the process. Rather than using a portal to produce his powers, he can activate his
brain chemicals independently and open his own portal.
Jerrod smiles.
MCNALLY
And why does that
notion piss off Dr. Lau so bad?
CAINE
You mean beside it being theoretically the most significant scientific breakthrough since the discovery of portals? Well, it also proves that a certain someone from the School of Miracles might know more about portals than him.
