SLATER
I know the pain that burdens you. I know the guilt coiling itself around your heart. I know the voices in your head, begging you to end your life. You are trapped, John Plumley. But the portal can offer you freedom.

Plumley whispers.

PLUMLEY
How?

SLATER
I’ll show you.

In one swift motion, Slater quickly stands to his feet and clutches Plumley’s throat with a grip so strong that the older man is forced to his knees.

SLATER
But first, we have to get rid of something.

Slater closes his eyes and whispers to himself.

SLATER
I’m sorry for the way you’ve been treated today. The people here are blinded by arrogance and conformity. With your permission, I would like to free this man. Would that be okay?
